What is electroacupuncture?
Electroacupuncture and traditional acupuncture – the difference
Both uses the same points as traditional acupuncture.
Electroacupuncture use electric current to stimulate the acupuncture points. While traditional acupuncture don’t use electricity current, but only with traditional acupuncture techniques. It manually stimulate the needles and promote Qi (vital energy).
Generally two needles are selected to connect to the stimulator. A few pairs of points can be stimulated at the same time. After you get the “De Qi”(de Chi, means “get or feel the energy”) sensation, your acupuncturist will turn on the electro-stimulator.
You may feel the electric pulse. Based on what condition you have, we can help adjust the frequency and intensity of the electroacupuncture stimulator.
Electroacupuncture is usually used to stimulate muscle and nerve, aiming to promote circulation, reduce inflammation. It has been used to accelerate the recovery of injured muscles, or damaged nerves such as bell’s palsy.

Does electroacupuncture hurt?
Same as traditional acupuncture, you may feel the “De Qi” sensation (reported as pressure, slightly tingling sensation). Once the electric stimulator has been turned on, you may just feel the pulse without pain from the needle.
Is electroacupuncture safe?
Same as acupuncture, electro-acupuncture has little risk. Occasionally bleeding bruising or soreness may occur at the insertion sites. However, with a good acupuncturist, the risk can be reduced to minimal and usually no damage to your body.
