About Dr. Tracey Byrne
Tracey holds a double degree in Chinese Medicine and Human Biology from RMIT University. This means she approaches every patient through two lenses – classical TCM diagnosis and modern physiology – at the same time.
Her clinical training extends well beyond her degrees:
- Clinical internship at Jiangsu Provincial TCM Hospital in Nanjing, China – one of China’s leading teaching hospitals for TCM
- Paediatric acupuncture training under Julian Scott (UK) – the internationally recognised authority on paediatric acupuncture and author of the field’s leading textbook
- Internationally accredited oncology acupuncture training – a rare credential in Australian Chinese medicine practice
She also has a background as a clinician and supervisor at the RMIT Teaching Clinic, contributing to the education of the next generation of Chinese medicine practitioners.
And underpinning all of it: 25+ years of personal daily practice in Tai Chi and Qi Gong – giving her a lived, experiential understanding of energy and balance that shapes everything she does in the treatment room.
Clinical Expertise
Pain Management
Pain and musculoskeletal conditions:
- Headaches and migraines – including hormonal patterns
- Back pain and sciatica
- Arthritis and joint pain
- Neck and shoulder tension
Her remedial massage qualification means she can combine acupuncture and massage in the same session – addressing structural and energetic dimensions together.
Paediatric Acupuncture – Coburg
Treating children well requires specific training. Children are not small adults – their physiology, their patterns of illness, and their responses to treatment are genuinely different.
Tracey trained directly under Julian Scott – whose work is the global benchmark for paediatric acupuncture. This gives her clinical frameworks and techniques not taught in standard Chinese medicine curricula.
What this means in practice:
- Finer needles, shorter retention, or no needles at all for very young children
- Needle-free alternatives – Tui Na massage, acupressure, Shonishin, laser acupuncture
- Age-appropriate assessment and treatment adapted to each child
- Calm, reassuring manner – parents present throughout every session
Conditions she commonly treats in children:
- Frequent colds and respiratory infections
- Digestive concerns – poor appetite, bloating, constipation
- Sleep difficulties and anxiety
- Allergies and immune support
Children typically respond faster than adults. Changes are often seen within just a few sessions.

Oncology Acupuncture – Integrative Cancer Support
Oncology acupuncture requires knowledge that goes well beyond general clinical training. Tracey holds internationally accredited oncology acupuncture qualifications and participates in international forums in this field. This is a rare credential in Australian practice.
Oncology acupuncture is complementary support – it works alongside conventional treatment, never instead of it.
It may help with:
- Fatigue from chemotherapy and radiotherapy
- Nausea and digestive discomfort
- Pain management
- Sleep disruption
- Immune function support
- Emotional wellbeing and stress regulation
All oncology sessions are adapted to the patient’s current treatment status and medication load. We communicate with your oncologist where relevant.
Women’s Health
Women’s health conditions Tracey commonly supports:
Fertility Acupuncture, IVF & Pregnancy Support
Tracey supports individuals and couples through every stage of the reproductive journey – from preconception through to birth and postnatal recovery.
Tracey’s fertility acupuncture programs may assist with:
- Preconception optimisation – hormonal regulation, cycle health, and egg quality support
- Natural fertility and conception – cycle-phase based programs for couples trying to conceive without assisted reproduction
- IVF & ART support – structured protocols including ovarian stimulation support, pre- and post-embryo transfer acupuncture, and two-week wait support
- Pregnancy acupuncture – morning sickness, pelvic pain, sleep, and birth preparation throughout all three trimesters
- Postnatal recovery – energy restoration, lactation support, and hormonal rebalancing
Her treatment always works collaboratively with your fertility specialist or GP.
Clinical Style – Balance in Practice and in Philosophy
Tracey’s 25+ years of daily Tai Chi and Qi Gong practice shapes how she is in the treatment room: calm, methodical, and unhurried.
Patients consistently describe her as a practitioner who actually listens – who takes time to understand not just the symptoms but the full context of a person’s life.
Her philosophy: health is not the absence of symptoms. It is a state of everyday equilibrium.
At your first appointment, you can expect:
- A thorough health history – including hormonal history and lifestyle factors
- TCM assessment – tongue and pulse diagnosis
