Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do I need a referral from my GP to see an acupuncturist or chiropractor?
A: No, a GP referral is not required to book an appointment at Almond Wellness Centre. However, we highly value integrated care. With your permission, we are happy to communicate with your GP, specialist, or midwife to ensure your treatment is coordinated and safe.
Q: Is acupuncture safe, and does it hurt?
A: Acupuncture is considered very safe when performed by AHPRA-registered practitioners. We use only sterile, single-use, hair-thin needles. Most patients feel a slight “De-Qi” sensation (a dull ache or tingling) rather than pain, and many find the experience so relaxing they fall asleep during treatment.
Q: Can I claim my treatment on my private health insurance?
A: Yes. We provide on-the-spot HICAPS claiming at both our Coburg and Ringwood clinics. If you have “Extras” cover that includes Acupuncture, Chiropractic, or Remedial Massage, you only need to pay the gap. Please check with your specific fund for your annual limits.
Q: How many sessions will I need before I see results?
A: This depends on whether your condition is acute (recent) or chronic (long-term). While some patients feel immediate relief, others – particularly those on a fertility journey or in stroke recovery – may require a course of 6–10 sessions to achieve a cumulative therapeutic effect. Your practitioner will provide a clear treatment plan during your first visit.
Q: What is your cancellation policy?
A: We require at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations or rescheduling. This allows us to offer the appointment time to other patients on our waiting list. A cancellation fee may apply for late notices or missed appointments.
