What is Electro-Acupuncture

Electro-acupuncture is an acupuncture technique that pairs of acupuncture needles are attached to a electro-acupuncture stimulator, which generates electric pulses. It has been used for a wide array of conditions, especially for musculo-skeleton conditions thanks for the good result of pain relieving.

Difference between Electro-acupuncture and traditional acupuncture

Electro-acupuncture uses the same points as traditional acupuncture. Generally two needles are selected to connect to the stimulator. A few pairs of points can be stimulated at the same time. After you get the "De Qi"(de Chi, means "get or feel the energy") sensation, your acupuncturist will turn on the electro-acupuncture stimulator. You may feel the electric pulse. Based on what condition you have, we can help adjust the frequency and intensity of the electro-acupuncture stimulator.

Conditions treated with electro-acupuncture

A various of conditions can be treated by electro-acupuncture. Such as:

  • Pain management

Headache, neck shoulder pain, lower back pain, sciatica nerve pain, trigeminal neuralgia, postherpetic neuralgia, etc.

There are evidences indicate that electro-acupuncture stimulates the body to generate endorphin, which help relieving the pain and relaxing the body. The pulse on the muscles also stimulates the local area. It can improve circulation and reduce inflammation.

  • Neurological diseases

Post-Stroke hemiplegia, facial paralysis (bell's palsy), cerebral palsy, neuritis, nerve paralysis;

  • General internal disorders

Stress, anxiety, insomnia;

  • Acupuncture anaesthesia

Does it hurt?

No. Same as traditional acupuncture, you may feel the "De Qi" sensation (reported as pressure, slightly tingling sensation). Once the electric stimulator has been turned on, you may just feel the pulse without any pain.
